Virgin's new green super fuel; Branson on a roll?
If you Google the two terms “Virgin Fuel” and "Branson" today you’ll only get 32 hits. It’s nice when you hit upon the start of a new trend.
Richard Branson, Virgin Groups dynamic founder is working on a still largely top secret fuel alternative which he disclosed this week in an interview in Business 2.0
His claim to fame? Reinventing stodgy business models; records and media, air travel, credit cards, cell phones etc , He’s also venturing into novel fields, such as Virgin Galactic (commercial Space Travel )and now Virgin Fuels.
Virgin Fuels, was first disclosed during this year’s 2006 Davos meeting, see here, We get a larger glimpse of Branson’s energy plans in an interview on page 91 of the August Business 2.0 where Richard Branson discloses his idea for a green super fuel...details are very skimpy so far.
"I used to be skeptical of global warming but now I’m absolutely convinced that the world is spiraling out of control…[ ] we’ve put quite a lot of money to invest in alternate fuels…1 billion over the next four years…The money is going into a whole series of different things like building ethanol plants, solar, wind power and we are also working on developing a new kind of fuel which I can’t say much about, but which is quite exciting."
It will be called Virgin Fuel…It’s not ethanol-based as such, but it’ll be a clean fuel. [ ] And if we got it right, it could be a very important break through..[ ] we think this fuel will work in cars, trucks and trains within a year ( ETA 2007) and we’re hoping it might work in commercial jet engines within 5 years ( ETA 2011)
Well, we can only wait and hope this research pans out. Remember it's not money that makes the world go round, it's money that buys the energy that makes the world go round.
For my best guess on what Virgin Fuel is working on is biofuels or other energy alternatives...see Cars that run on.....

VirginFuels.org is an independent news site examining global bioenergy issues. Although we are not associated with Virgin Fuels, the venture energy company founded by Sir Richard Branson, we agree with his principles. We believe we have a responsibility to our children to safeguard our environment. We believe there are viable options to the continued use of fossil fuels. And finally, we are absolutely convinced there are profitable applications for alternative energy and biofuel technologies in today's commercial market."
