Even the manhole covers are getting smarter
Michael Kesterton in his column SOCIAL STUDIES A DAILY MISCELLANY OF INFORMATION in the Globe and Mail writes about Intelligent manholes? " '
Any Tom, Dick or Harry can open a manhole cover,' [ ] Edward Christie's firm, Stabiloc of Warren, Mich., has developed a manhole locking system
". . . What lies below any given manhole cover? Perhaps the potential to paralyze a city in an instant, so Stabiloc's system not only locks the manhole cover but also provides a small chip, placed in a protective device, that details the service history and what's below. It's an important development, Christie said. 'We've made the manhole cover more intelligent.'
STABILOC helps Municipalities to: "
- Prevent thefts of manhole covers for scrap value
- Dispatch the latest technology to secure an aging infrastructure system
- Comply with Vulnerability Assessment findings - "Single Points of Failure"
- Can be retrofitted to work with existing covers saving cities money
- Can be ordered with new replacement manhole covers
- Protects manhole covers from theft -reducing cities dependency on purchasing replacement covers
- Prevents access from unauthorized personnel with controlled tooling
So what 'left to make smarter ? Or all we need to make smarter or intellivate (intelligent + elevate) is the kitchen sink
