WHICH COUNTRY BOASTS THE BIGGEST IT BRAINS?
Here's a old post from InfoWorld by David L. Margulius from October 2006 that highlights the top IT countries in the 2006 Global IT Skills Report The mission of the report was to analyze the IT skills & certifications of more than 300,000 people in more than 200 countries.
I bet you will be surprised who is challenging the USA and India for IT supremacy
At the country level, the United States retained the No. 1 spot in 2006 in number of new certifications received (with 103,380), although this metric was down 18 percent from 2005.
India took second (with 89,374), up 47 percent (solid), followed by Russia (-21 percent;.loosing ground), #4 is Ukraine (+14 percent; strong and gaining ground ), in 5th spot comes Romania(-18 percent), then the U.K. (-7 percent, showing weakness), Canada (-27 percent; falling behind ), Belarus (+49 percent -woo hooo !!), Philippines (-4 percent), and Bulgaria (-30 percent).
China weighed in at No. 34 (a surprize to me: I thought they would rank higher ) , just above Armenia, with only 491 new certifications.
In some areas, such as security and Windows desktop administration, the United States remained dominant, the study showed; in others, such as LAN/WAN communications, we're facing stiff competition from newcomers Romania and Ukraine. India continued to dominate database development and most programming-language categories -- except C#. Latin American countries didn't crack the top 10 but showed strong growth in new certifications".
