According to Catherine M. Roe, Ph.D., and her colleagues at the Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, individuals with higher education levels appear to score higher on cognitive tests despite having evidence of brain plaques associated with Alzheimer's disease, according to a report just released in the November issue of Archives of Neurology, Arch Neurol. 2008;65[11]:1467-1471.
The cognitive reserve hypothesis implies that individuals with greater cognitive (thinking, learning and memory) abilities are able to delay symptoms of Alzheimer's disease, despite underlying changes in the brain.
This could result in profound savings in our geriatric health care budgets as creative class baby boomers or others that think for a living instead of physically working for a living reach that risk age
So the "education effect" might delay things, but can something reverse it?
The next facinating and exciting stage would be to look at the impacts of supplementing drinking water with nano-levels of hydrated fullerenes (or water-soluble buckyballs or C60 ---N.B. regular buckyballs are not water soluble and won't work) for seniors.
Researchers in Ukraine have shown for the first time by transmission electron microscopy that:
“hydrated fullerene C60 inhibited the fibrillization of amyloid-ß25-35 peptide. The fullerene affected the amyloid-ß25-35 assembly, manifesting its anti-amyloidogenic capacity. Our in vivo investigations demonstrated also that a single intracerebroventricular injection of the C60 hydrated fullerene at a dose of 7.2 nmol/ventricle significantly improved the performance of the cognitive task in control rats.”

UPDATE: Oct 11, 2009.
I've just returned from Ukraine and a Fullerene Water Solution will be available on the Ukrainian Market as a food supplement within weeks. Contact me if you wish more information
