(Cartoon from a recent New Yorker magazine)...every empire has its day in the sun, including Russia ad the USA?
Back in November, I cited a 25 year projection/ scenario that posits the breakup of the Russian Federation by Nina Khrushcheva, who now teaches in the USA. See "In 25 years, Ukraine dominates over Russia's Rotting Empire according to Nina L. Khrushcheva, great grand-daughter of Nikita Khrushchev"
Not to be outdone, the Wall Street Journal today features a story about Igor Panarin -a former KGB analyst, now the dean of the Russian Foreign Ministry's Diplomatic Academy for future diplomats. He's been predicting that the USA will disintegrate by 2010. Of all the recession / depression scenarios that I've read, this is likely the most extreme.
"Mr. Panarin posits, in brief, that mass immigration, economic decline, and moral degradation will trigger a civil war next fall and the collapse of the dollar. Around the end of June 2010, or early July, he says, theU.S.will break into six pieces -- with Alaska reverting to Russian control...[..]...
He based the forecast on classified data supplied to him by FAPSI - the Russian equivalent of the U.S. National Security Agency he says. He predicts that economic, financial and demographic trends will provoke a political and social crisis in the U.S. When the going gets tough, he says, wealthier states will withhold funds from the federal government and effectively secede from the union. Social unrest up to and including a civil war will follow. The U.S.will then split along ethnic lines, and foreign powers will move in. California will form the nucleus of what he calls "The Californian Republic," and will be part of China or under Chinese influence. Texas will be the heart of"The Texas Republic," a cluster of states that will go to Mexico or fall under Mexican influence. Washington, D.C., and New York will be part of an"Atlantic America" that may join the European Union. Canada will grab a group of Northern states Prof. Panarin calls "The Central North American Republic." Hawaii, he suggests, will be a protectorate of Japan or China, and Alaska will be subsumed into Russia."
...."I can [really] see Russia from my house." --adapted from comedian Tina Fey, impersonating Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin on SNL, Sept 13, 2008
Russians should be jumping with glee at the prospect of the fall of the US empire- No says Panarin.
"There's a 55-45% chance right now that disintegration will occur," he says. "One could rejoice in that process," he adds, poker-faced. "But if we're talking reasonably, it's not the best scenario -- for Russia." Though Russia would become more powerful on the global stage, he says, its economy would suffer because it currently depends heavily on the dollar and on trade with the U.S."
Panarin says he created strategy forecasts for then-President Boris Yeltsin, adding that the details are "classified." The “classified parts” are likely the action steps--how Russia will help America along the path to the “USA Collapse” scenario.
This message may be intended as much for domestic consumption too. Nothing like a little propaganda to distract the Russian masses and convince them that while motherland Russia is falling to bits, your old cold war rival is that much worse off.
American reactions range from "pure rubish" and "not serious" to "fantacy". A stern "no comment" from the White House. The story which was first reported on Nov 24 by Bloomberg and Dec 3, 2008 at a White House press briefing got little media traction, but now that it was picked up by the WSJ, it's gained more legitimacy...the blogosphere is humming ---must be a slow news day !!!
Has Russia launched a new Information, propaganda war against the USA and the west?
In a story on March 30, 2008, titled:Russian expert urges more funds to wage "information war" on Britain and others;
" Russia should earmark more funds for waging information war, an expert in the field, Prof Igor Panarin of the Diplomatic Academy of the Foreign Ministry of the Russian Federation believes."
Speaking on the "25th Hour" TV program on Moscow's government controlled Centre TV on 5 December, Panarin, who was interviewed on President Dmitriy Medvedev's visit to India, said:
"Within the next two to three years, not only will the USA cease to be one of the main centres of power, but I think that it will cease to exist as one state altogether. In this regard, the emergence of new centres of power - China, of course, Europe and the Russian-Indian alliance - will, in this case, be curbing undesirable trends, - the strengthening of China - while stimulating Russia's very powerful economic and technological surge." --Source: Centre TV, Moscow, in Russian 2055 5 Dec 08
So, imagine a world without the two super powers--The USA and Russia. HHmmmm!@?&?? Would we all be better off or not?
Sounds like a Hollywood movie in the making !!!
UPDATE: AUG 2010--USA is still here and in one piece....So this turns out to be standard Russian propoganda and not an accurate Russian prediction--N.B. Putinism has a better chance to collapse and desintigrate vs the USA fragmenting ....Walter Derzko
You know, there was a computer game that came out a few years ago that had a very similar map to the one the professor is suggesting. Except that all the Confederate states went back to being their own nation.
